Review of Treachery at Martinique Isle

Treachery at Martinique Isle
by
Rachel Cherie

Synopsis

In the mid 1600's, when King Charles I reigned England and pirates controlled the seas, twins separated at birth are reunited under dire circumstances in the sleepy town of Port de Couler de Bateaux, Port of Sinking Ships.  Jacqueline and Alexandria settle into the Midway Zebra inn with their new surrogate parents, innkeepers Jemima and Fred Bumbleridge.  Eight years later, the inn burns to the ground taking beloved Bumbleridges with it.  The twins are abandoned once more, but their guardians have left something to remember them by.  Two small bags of gold, two cloaks, two flintlocks, and two gold lockets.  A riddle is inscribed on each locket, finishing not only a tale of piracy but also opening a door to the girls' mysterious past.  Partnered with a thier, a butler, and a wannabe Viking, the two sail across the ocan in search of the answers.  Together the twins discover that not everyone is who the seem, and sometimes things take a turn for the worse especially when there is Treachery at Maritinque Isle.

My Review

Alexandria (Alex) and Jacqueline (Jacq) are twins.  They find this out after both of them have to say goodbye to the ones that love them.  Captain Taylor didn't want to leave Jacq, but has no choice. Madam Thorpe is sick and dies at the Midway Zebra inn leaving Alex alone.  Jacq and Alex are then put in the care of Fred and Jemima Bumbleridge owners of the inn.
The girls grow up at the inn until one day a fire breaks out.  The girls frantically look for Fred and Jemima.  They refuse to leave.   The girls are shocked and sad at this.  Then they see it and cannot believe their eyes.  A pirate yelling Black Fred and Gold Gem.  This scares the girls and they run for they're lives.
They then find Miata the town thief.  Alex and Jacq tell him what has happened and he offers to help them.
The girls were given matching gold lockets by Fred and Jemima. Inside each bag they find a compass, money, a letter, a gun, gun powder and bullets.  Among a few other items.  After exploring the contents of the bags the girls discover there are riddles inscribed on each locket.   They then realize they are on a hunt for a treasure.   Little do Alex and Jacq know on this big adventure they will discover enemies, find love and unravel the mystery before them.  Secrets will be revealed and family members united.

I have to say I was highly entertained by this fun and easy read.  I would recommend this book to book lovers of all ages. I give this book a 4 star rating.:)

YA AUTHORS

I have to say that I have been a YA reader for many years.  I have never strayed and I never will.  Yes there are the obvious ones, but there are so many to discover.  There is something so entertaining and enthralling about these reads.  I remember thinking to myself quite a few years ago how funny it was that I was so in love with the "Harry Potter books."  Or as time would go by, "The twilight series."  The of course "The Hunger Games."  I couldn't help myself.  I was intrigued and before I knew it one of the biggest 30 year old fans. lol
Now at 38 years old, I still can't get enough.  If I hear of a YA about to be released or one I haven't heard of...I am on it.
These authors have to be some of the best writers around.  Not only do they suck us into their books, they make us want more!

S.L. Dearing

"The Gathering"
 by
S.L. Dearing
Lia Fail means the great stone of destiny.
Just a tad bit of history for you before I give you my review.  To me this was an important thing to know.

S.L. Dearing has brought so many elements to this story line.  It is everything I love rolled into one.
Romance~Villains~Mythical Creatures~and of course Love.
In a post apocalyptic world this medieval fantasy brings other families together from different villages. This is known as "The Gathering."
Alia Stark is a headstrong queen of Lia Fail. She has 11 kids.  In this book you get to know them one by one.  They will captivate your heart.  You will take the journey along with them and their mother. Love will be found among many and villains are exposed.
Little do they know there is an evil force that desperately wants something from Alia.  A gift that Alia doesn't even know she has hidden within her.
Alia will discover the goddess that is waiting to be unleashed.

This book is a definite must read!  I can't say that enough. I was on my toes until the very end.  Turning page after page with the anticipation of what would happen next. I was rooting for the characters in this book and for they're fight and will to survive.
The last few chapters literally gave me chills.
I was beyond saddened that it came to and end.
Then I brought myself back to reality and realized that S.L. Dearing is working on book 2.
I cannot wait for it and you will feel the same way.

~My Review~
If your looking for a great read with high energy, bravery and courage, then this book is for you.

Martin Crosbie takes us on a journey through Malcolm Stewart's life.
Readers get to know Malcolm as a young boy to whom of which is bullied along with his good friend, Hardly. These chapters in the book are sad and keep you turning the pages for more.

Malcolm's mom is not the mom Malcolm deserves at all!!
She is very selfish and worried about her own happiness.

Malcolm's dad is a wonderful man. He wants only the best for his future.
After Malcolm is not longer aloud in the school he was attending, his dad sends him back to Canada to live with Malcolm's mom's ex boyfriend, George.
You will get to know the most amazing characters that love Malcolm and help him throughout his life.

Malcolm meets Heather Postman. Little does he know there are secrets she is keeping from him.
Heather tells Malcolm she has a daughter that she desperately needs to find. She doesn't give Malcolm much to go on, but he trusts her and loves her and will help her in any way he can.
This leads to to the craziest ride of Malcolm's life and he will do anything to help Heather find Emily.

Martin Crosbie throws us into a world of adventure.
The abuse, the roller coaster of a ride that Malcolm is hurtled into blindsides him with a fury.
IT IS A THRILL RIDE YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS!

In my opinion Malcolm is a a strong willed, capable force to be reckoned with.
This book leave you with an overwhelming feeling of what Malcolm is, and that my friends.........IS A HERO!!
